Family Araneidae (Orb Weavers)*

The images on this page show  photos of a two spiders from the Family Araneidae (Orb Weavers); I think from the Genus Araneus. 

*Caveat:  I am NOT an entomologist and, as with all my 'bug' pictures, I am NOT positive about the accuracy of my taxonomic identification.

 I found this first spider hanging on the side of our house (in Logy Bay, Newfoundland) by a single thread. There was no web in sight.  IT had a body length of 3 mm.  I moved him with my trusty peanut butter jar for the photos. Here he/she is seen crawling around the rim of the jar. I found him/her about 5:30 PM local time (NDT) on 2006-05-03.

This second spider was photographed on 2006-05-10, while it was crawling on its web that was attached to our garage.  Its body length was 5 mm.
