Isopod (Sowbug)* Macros

The images on this page are all from photos of a single Isopod (aka "Sowbug" or aka "Carpenter" in Newfoundland).  After collecting the bug from under a rock, I placed him on a sheet of white paper in the sun for the photographs.  I released him when the photo session was offer.

This specimen was 14 mm (~1/2 inch) in length, plus antennae.  It was photographed on 2006-04-24, with a Canon 20D and EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM lens in natural sunlight.

*Caveat:  I am NOT an entomologist and, as with all my bug pictures, I am NOT positive about the accuracy of my taxonomic identification.
