When
you click the thumbnail images on this page, a larger image will
open. You may need to click on that larger image again in order to
see the photo at its full resolution. This is because many web
browsers are set to automatically make large images smaller. This
is done so that the entire image will be visible on the screen. The
problem is that this process can make the images look fuzzier than they
actual are and it can also hide some of the fine detail. This
issue will be more of a problem for people with low resolution monitors,
that is, a resolution below 1920 x 1200, but it can apply to anyone. Drivers
without helmets are not racing. In most cases these photos were
taken when they were returning to the pit area after a run down the
track. Some
of the photos at this Meet were taken with a very long focal
length. In 'plain talk' that means they were taken from a great
distance away from the subject. In some cases, the camera was a
kilometer or more away from what was being photographed. Because
the weather was so hot, these long focal length images show lots of
distortion due to heat waves in the atmosphere. This distortion is
easily seen in the panorama at the top of this page. This type of
weather can also produce the same effect that causes people in the
desert to see a mirage
that they think is water when no water exists. What appears to be
water on the track in photo ME1D024813.jpg
is merely a reflection caused by the hot air off the track meeting the
cooler air above it. Return
